There's really not a hard and faster answer to questions regarding quality, or which chain is better. In terms of specs they are very close, and both Laclede and Pewag are known for making high-quality products. We do consider the Viro locks to be of higher quality than the Laclede lock (which is imported from overseas). The fit and finish is nicer on the Viro product and Viro is known as a premium lock manufactuer. That said, the Laclede locks have performed very well. We (as a company) actually have a few that have been in use now for several years, still going strong. The Laclede lock is a 5-tumbler design with an anti-drill plate, the Viro lock is a 6-pin design, also with an anti-drill plate. Both locks spec out similarly, but again, the Viro lock is nicer overall.
