We checked with the manufacturer, and this is what they said.
The IPHNM10 is designed for lifting loads that cannot be marred in a horizontal position, which is why they must be used in pairs or more.
If they want to lift loads that cannot be marred vertically, then they should use the IPNM10N style. This can be used individually or in pairs. This style can be attached to the load in the horizontal position, turn the load to the vertical position, and continue to turn the load a full 180 degrees.
