The 5/8" call out is in reference to the ring of material that forms the eye. The inside diameter of the eye is 1-3/8". The overall length of the device is 6.5" and the spike portion--from the tip of the spike to where it starts to bevel--is about 2-7/8". Bear in mind these measurements are based on current stock, and when fresh inventory comes in one might see slight variations in design. It depends on the pattern being used by the given mill at the time of purchase.
