According to Thern, yes, you can use it with synthetic rope. You'll need to cinch the rope down using the cable anchor (these winches are pre-configured to use cable, not rope) and then be sure to leave 10-12 wraps on the drum. Leaving the wraps is critical, they act as the true anchor for your rope.
