I install Safes for a living and sometimes have to go down Bilco doors with Safes anywhere between 800 pounds and 1500 pounds and I hate having guys at the bottom because its dangerous. In general we would not recommend this item for that type of purpose. You could instead rig up rope with a figure 8 descender to help control the lowering speed of the safe. There are many options really but without seeing your exact application, it's hard to suggest something too specific.
