Not exactly, no. While the aluminum construction and the generous footprint leads to good heat dissipation and good surface area contact, the X-Ring itself does not turn. It does not have the same advantages as a true block or pulley, and is not meant to replace them entirely. Notch says the following: "The uses for rigging applications are many. Redirect, fair lead, speedline, you name it. The possibilities are as varied as the gals and guys removing trees!"
