You can use soft rope, however, the capacity will be much less since (most) rope is not as strong as steel cable size-for-size. Generally speaking, we do not recommend using rope.
Can soft rope be used with this winch? If so, is the maximum soft rope size 3/16" as well? HIT H-100 Hand Winch - 1200 lbs Capacity - #16-HW1200
