Hi, I work in a AHTS vessel. We use this 120 tons shackels, that has xxxx and bolt and a hole for safety pin, and I see the crew tight the bolt with a hammer and put the pi9n inside the hole, use a couple of bars to bend every leg of the pin and the use a hammerto bend more>my question is if is ok to use the hammer or is useful, , I think the hammer is unnesesary but I want to double check with you, regards David G.

We're not aware of any warning or prohibition against using a hammer as described. Obviously you want to take care not to damage the shackle, the bolt, nut or retainer pin.
