We know what you're talking about, but unfortunately we do not know of any tricks to expedite the process, just massage the rope left to right and up and down and pull away from the drum until it pops free. To help prevent this, make sure the rope is spooled tight to the drum prior to applying heavy loads. If it's tight on the drum, it's harder (although not impossible) for the rope to suck down into the bottom layers.
