Hi Frankie,
A quick Google search shows that an adult moose weighs up to 1500 lbs. Given that, 1/2" rope should be plenty. You can use up to 5/8", but it should not be required for your intended use. Of course, things like sharp rocks or other impediments might foul the rope, no matter the size.
