Assuming by "cord" you mean rope, then no, it's not necessarily an issue. The manufacturer recommends 5/16" - 3/8" and most customers run 3/8". You want to make sure the rope isn't too weak, and also that it's not too large to allow enough wraps on the capstan drum.
