The outer jacket has a urethane coating (Maxijacket) that makes the rope more durable, yet a little bit stiffer. With use, however, the rope will soften. It's not really intended as a knot-tying rope, but we do splice it often, and Yale's Double Esterlon is probably the best splicing double braid product we carry. It is a very well-made, high-quality rope.
