There is a hash mark on the top of the cutter at the tail end. It serves as a guide for the angle and a wear marker. Chain has served its useful life when it is sharpened to the hash mark. The angle is 25º with 10º pitch. Rakers should be maintained at .025" for hardwood and .030" for softwood.
