Unfortunately that is a really open-ended question to which there isn't a simple answer, but, you're on the right track looking at bull ropes like this one. Generally 1/2" is the smallest bull rope we sell, 5/8" is the middle size and 3/4" is the largest (generally speaking) for tree work. It really depends on how much tension will be applied, what tools you're using to apply the tension, etc.
