Hot dip galvanized chain is definitely more resistant to rust than your standard zinc-plated or chromate chain. However, it's usually only found in Grade 43 or lower, especially for tie down purposes (there are some higher grade galvanized marine chains). Grade 43 is weaker than Grade 70 and generally not legal for tie down, so the two chains are not exactly interchangeable when it comes to application.
